As you progress, training starts to encompass various psychological aspects:
Working with Relaxation
Neutral mind (no ego or emotion), breath, peripheral vision, movement, tension-relaxation (conscious), body exercises (relaxed), ability to take strikes, permeability to tension, deflection of tension, confidence, adrenal response control (visualization, cues), maturity (spiritual, relativity, neuro-intellectual calmness, inner peace). The benefits include speed, fine motor skills, endurance, mental agility, perception (internal radar) and deception (external perception).
Working Subconsciously
Use minimal if any conscious thought interference, as conscious thought processes are disruptive while working (being relaxed & subconscious is not the same). You need relaxation for a predominantly subconscious state, but relaxation alone is not enough nor equivalent; use a still mind and eliminate emotional interference when working subconsciously. The subconscious state is a state of energetic control and spontaneous action and allows you to work in the zone.

Methodology
There is no secret to self-protection; the biggest issue is failure to respond appropriately, or at all. Strategies need to be automatic and decisive to provide rapid and effective control.
Self-protection is a serious matter. Our strategies are utilised worldwide by those who rely on them every day to prevail in high-risk roles and environments within defined operational parameters. They are designed to be learnt quickly and applied effectively for the average person with average fitness and experience, in everyday attire and under realistic conditions.
Training uses concepts and strategies designed to be effective (work in the real world) and defensible (comply with lawful parameters). Skills are principle-based, which are easier to learn and apply in reality, human (physiology, psychology, etc.) and tactical (environment, situational awareness, etc.), forcompetence through understanding.
Proficiency and confidence result from realistic, appropriate and regular training. Consistent training develops tactical blueprints (natural intuitive responses) rather than the technique-based method of learning by rote. Strategies are based on sound biomechanical and tactical concepts and students are encouraged to adapt these to suit their personal capability.
Interpersonal aggression is confronting and toxic. Even though the potential for violence in modern society is real, the average person rarely possesses the necessary skills to resolve these situations safely, and even fewer have the knowledge to navigate legal scrutiny afterwards. This means they are not fully prepared when faced with a determined attacker wanting to do them harm.
There are 3 aspects integral to how people respond to real violence:
Think to do: perceived ability, influenced by media and stylised training.
Must do: lawful guidelines that form the baseline for all strategies.
Will do: actual ability, based training and experience.
We focus on what you must and actually will do. Skills are perishable; gross motor functions offer advantages of easy to learn and remember and work under stress. Strategies are designed for most situations; however, nothing works 100% of the time, so the ability to disengage or escalate is a key factor.
